APSLEY X SARACENS
This weekend the new Rugby season starts and Saracens launched theirs with style last night at new ground Allianz Park in North London.
We were invited along to the club party to see the team in their new bespoke suits from Apsley of Pall Mall.
The Saracens squad includes an impressive 10 Lions and England players including Matt Stevens, Owen Farrell, Billy and Mako Vunipola, Brad Barritt, Chris Ashton, Alex Goode, Will Fraser, George Kruis and Richard Wigglesworth.
Dressing the stars of the rugby club for the first time this season, Apsley have had to accommodate a wide range of measurements when creating the squad’s bespoke lounge suits made from black Super 150 cloth with a red lining.
30 craftsmen have taken over a month to create the suits, and over 4 metres of cloth in each suit – a total of 264 metres for the entire squad was used.
Owen Farrell says: "I normally dress in shorts and T shirt and I very rarely get to put on a smart suit so its great to do it now and again - this one from Apsley makes me feel smart and ready for business! It's gonna be a great season!”
Arshad Mahmood, CEO of Apsley Tailors says: "Dressing Saracens was one of the biggest challenges we have ever faced in bespoke tailoring. To make suits for someone who is 20 stone, as well as someone with a neck measuring over 51 inches - well, let's just say, we used an awful lot of cloth!"
Apsley Tailors were founded in 1889 to make uniforms for the British military, and now they have clients which include many of the biggest names in UK Sport such as England Manager Roy Hodgson, the squads of West Ham United and Fulham Football Club, AP McCoy, Sky Sports anchor Ed Chamberlain and F1’s Adrian Sutil (and hopefully soon, team MWS).
