Orlebar Brown Spring/Summer 2014

For SS14, Orlebar Brown takes a trip to Monaco. A nation of resources such as its privileged location, great weather and unique lifestyle. Monaco provides visual and conceptual references that fit effortlessly into Orlebar Brown’s design philosophy.

The local spectator, a seaside character that embodies Monaco’s yacht culture, is present in Breton-inspired stripes that run throughout the collection, as well as in the Stanley blazer, a key item in the OB transition from pool to resort.

From the tranquil seaside lifestyle to the fast tracks of the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, this small exclusive country provided creative fuel for the OB seasonal branding, a play on typography reminiscent of the Formula 1 team badges of the 1950s and 60s, before advertising changed the look of the race seen today.

Seasonal colours include Chicane yellow, Riviera blue, and Marshall orange. They all represent different views of Monaco. Striped ribbing details deriving from racing suits become a consistent feature throughout the collection, from shorts and Harrington jackets to the Ottoman stripe polo.

Illustration, the most distinguishable representation of the theme, appears in 1930s travel posters - a full-blown message printed on classic Bulldog shorts and on the Tommy T t-shirt.

The brands OB Editions continue to explore the OB Way of Life. Hulton Getty archive iconic pool and beachside images from various photographers are featured in three new Classic Bulldog shorts - great additions to the Orlebar Brown signature collectible series.
