FLORAL BLAZERS FOR SUMMER

A LOOK AT THE FLORAL PRINT TREND AND IT'S LINK WITH SUIT JACKETS AND BLAZERS

Flower Blazers for the Summer

We’ve become very accustomed to floral patterns in menswear ever since Elvis sported his iconic Hawaiian shirt in the late 50s. In the last few years these designs moved from shirts to trousers and especially shorts.

This spring I noticed a fresh and new migration of this design, which boldly placed these floral arrangements on blazers. Maybe because the temperatures in New York are still quite unseasonably cool for July, gentlemen are still wearing blazers on the streets of the city’s five boroughs.

In trendy neighborhoods as Williamsburg, The Meat Packing District, and the East Village, it’s quite easy to bump into men on their way to a bash or a restaurant, sporting jackets with colorful floral prints.

Many designers made sure to offer floral motifs in their new spring collections that spanned from jacquard blazers with tiny blossoms, shapes reminiscent of 18th century decorations, to extra-large sensual blooms, culminating in convoluted cascades of flowers in brocade and needlepoint.

Even commercial stores, like Topman and ASOS, are offering fun and refreshing versions of this style. Sure, it’s not the easiest look to pull off with simplicity, but it can be appropriate for many casual occasions during this season.

And, if worn with solid neutral color trousers or shorts, it can be a refreshing and fun variation to the summer blazer.
