Autumn-Ready Bag Styles for Men

When it comes to receiving style compliments from a stranger it can somehow feel more personal than being complimented on our eyes, hair or smile. This is probably because it’s something we’ve worked on for many years, and so with this in mind you shouldn’t let your bag style hang loose - pun intended. Before you make a purchase there are a few factors you need to consider. Read on.

Backpacks

Let’s consider the bag in which you have the most ease when moving; the backpack. If you prefer to cycle to work then it could be the most convenient option, although you do need to consider if this is suitable for your formal office wear. If so, please rid of that adidas bag you’ve had since school - you will want something a little classier such as Herschel. These are commonly made from canvas or cotton and they’re very versatile and durable. Some designer brands out there have released a range of luxury backpacks such as Gucci and Fendi too.

Courier Bags

Another easy to use bag is the Courier, where one strap is worn over one shoulder while the bag rests to the opposite side or lower back. Another name for this type of bag is a satchel or messenger bag. While the backpack can carry heavier possessions, the satchel is good for lighter items such as notebooks and stationery. The name messenger comes from their convenience, often easily accessible with smaller pockets in the front. They’re typically made from canvas or leather and while being more stylish than a backpack these can look great with jeans and boots as well as when commuting to the office. Just be careful not to damage the fabric on your clothes (by excessive use) as well as not to cause discomfort to your shoulder.

Duffel Bags

Also known as a Weekender, the duffel bag gets its name from a town in Belgium where the cloth originates from. Commonly used for the gym as well as short weekend breaks, they are more durable for carrying heavier items. They are often made from canvas, polyester and leather. Fjällräven, Mi-Pac and Herschel are a great brand for this type of bag.

Briefcases

Probably not the most common day bag in 2016. They were commonly used by lawyers and business men in the past to protect their legal documents and they still have that Wall Street stigma attached to them. The appearance is usually leather and box like, similar to a messenger bag. However, the new ‘briefcase’ of today is probably the carrier that we hold our laptops around in. Since this is a good sturdy style of bag you’re after you will want to spend a little more e.g. Oppermann and Tumi.
