What You Need in Your Transitional Wardrobe

Winter’s on its way out and the weather is very slowly beginning to warm up. This means it’s almost time to ditch the big coat and start delving into your transitional wardrobe to take you from the cooler months, through spring and into summer. If the thought of that leaves you scratching your head don’t worry, because we’ve compiled a list of the transitional essentials that you’ll be needing to see you through.

A Rain-Proof Backpack

The weather between winter and summer can be notoriously wet and windy. The last thing you want is to get caught in the rain on your way to work with an expensive laptop or camera in your less-than-adequate bag. To get through this unpredictable part of the year you’ll need something a little more reliable. This extremely handsome backpack from Filson features a super heavy cotton twill which will keep the elements at bay.

A Light Waterproof Coat

If you keep rocking your winter coat through the transitional period, all you’re going to achieve is being a sweaty mess whenever you try to get anywhere on public transport. Instead you should pick up something a little more lightweight, yet still smart and definitely water resistant. A classic Barbour is a pretty good shout when it comes to this sort of thing and if you look after it properly it will last you a lifetime.

A Lightweight Down Vest

The key to transitioning from winter to summer is layering – that cannot be stressed enough – and a good lightweight down vest is your best mate for this. Pop it over a shirt when it’s warmer out, or layer it under a jacket if you’re feeling the chill. This is an investment which will be useful for at least three of the four seasons. Try Patagonia for nice, simple lightweight options.

Sneakerboots

Your winter boots are going to be too warm but your summer trainers aren’t going to offer enough protection from the elements. The solution? Sneakerboots. There are plenty of different sneakerboots available but we think the Air Max 95 version is particularly tasty and will enable you to keep on top of the upcoming techwear trend, if you’re that way inclined.

A Fisherman Beanie

A fisherman-style beanie will make the perfect alternative to bigger winter hats as it covers less of the head and if your ears are getting a bit chilly then you can always roll it down. ASOS are basically the one-stop-shop for this particular item and have been for some years.

A Nice Umbrella

There’s no shame in carrying an umbrella and if you buy the right one it can work as the perfect accessory to your outfit. James Smith & Sons in London has been making bespoke umbrellas for the capital’s gentlemen for nearly two-hundred years and if anyone knew how to carry an umbrella with style it was 1800s London gentlemen (probably). Where better to buy yours from?
