5 of the Most Thrilling Travel Experiences in Australia

It is no wonder that more than 8 million tourists visited Australia in 2017. It has so much to offer, so much to see and many tourists fall in love with the country to the extent that they move there. But let's look at five of the most incredible things you can do when you visit the land Down Under.

Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge

We’ve all seen the pictures, we’ve all imagined the height, but one thing you certainly must do on a trip to Australia is climb this iconic landmark to get some of the best views of Sydney you will see anywhere. Once you have put on your grey suit and hat to match the bridge (the idea being you don’t distract drivers because you blend in), you will climb up some 134m above the thundering road below. But once you are up there you will get some fantastic snaps and, we promise, you will never forget it. One more thing, unlike destinations such as Thailand, travel insurance isn’t strictly mandatory in Oz – but if you are going to be climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge it is certainly worth looking into!

Surf on Bondi Beach

We all know the stereotypes about Australia, and when you arrive you will find many are simply a way of life for people here. Bondi Beach is world famous for its surf, its beach volleyball and for its incredible 1km stretch of sand sprawling along the New South Wales coast. It’s a surfing mecca, and if you’re interested in giving it a try, this is the place to do it. The instructors are friendly and expert and you may never get another chance to do it. Go for it!

Dive the Great Barrier Reef

It is one of the wonders of the world and sadly one that is dying gradually each year. But you cannot travel to Australia and not visit this natural phenomenon. The Great Barrier Reef is home to almost 2000 species of fish and is still an incredible sight to behold. The key (when you visit Cairns or one of the other cities from where trips set off) is to find an operator that is respectful of the reef. You want to do as little to this reef as you possibly can when you go to see it.

Kangaroo Island

Situated off the coast of the southern city of Adelaide, the clue is very much in the name of this island. But all joking aside, you may not find a better place in all of Australia to find the national animal in truly natural surroundings. More than 30% of the island is protected and while kangaroos give the island its name you will also find koalas, sea lions and even penguins here.

Sunset over Uluru

What better way to bring your incredible trip to an end than by visiting Australia’s most sacred natural landmark. Once known as Ayres Rock, Uluru is its aboriginal name and a trip here is an education about the culture and history of Australia’s indigenous people. If you can time your visit to coincide with sunrise or sunset you will see the colours change on the rock and feel like you are in a very special place indeed.
