January 2020’s Best Men’s Grooming Drops

I’m not one for the whole ‘new year, new me’ saying. I thought 2019 Nick was pretty good, so I’ll strive to continue the good work he started. However, there’s always something we can aim to change in a new year. I’m kicking off 2020 by appreciating some of the finer aesthetic details in fragrance, because not only should you look and smell great, but so should the bottle. Here’s my picks of the best grooming drops in January 2020.

Gucci Guilty Love Edition Pour Homme

Love Edition is the latest flanker to the popular fragrance line, and the best looking yet. Love Edition has been released in both Pour Homme and Pour Femme, presented in gorgeous pastel bottles, green and pink respectively. It features top notes of kumquat, mandarin orange and ginger. Mid notes of lavender, pink pepper, geranium and rosemary. Then finally base notes of patchouli, vetiver and benzoin. With a gorgeous bottle and the unique kumquat note, Gucci Guilty Love Edition could be just the start your 2020 fragrance lineup needs.

Tom Ford Beau de Jour

Originally released in 2019, Beau de Jour featured in Tom Ford’s private blend line. Following in the tracks of Ombre Leather, Beau de Jour will now feature in the signature line. Naturally a new bottle design was created, and continues the beautiful fluted glass that features heavily in the line. Any fans of Beau de Jour shouldn’t be alarmed, as whilst it has had some new clothes for 2020, the scent remains the same. A refined combination of lavender, patchouli and rosemary, a contemporary take on a classic fougere.

Tom Daxon Iridium 71%

Tom Daxon have introduced Iridium 71%, a higher concentration release of their popular scent. Iridium is described by the brand as the equivalent of charcoal coloured cashmere, and it really does live up to the description. Iridium is a scent that sits close to the skin and envelops the wearer in luxury. It’s decadent and comforting. 71% refers to the concentration of oil in the fragrance, which has lead to greater depth, clarity and complexity compared to the original release. Iris, juniper and angelica are the stars of the show, and make for the perfect winter warming scent.

Clarisonic Mia Men

Using a daily face wash is essential for a gentleman's grooming regime, but Clarisonic take it to another level. Designed for men and utilising Clarisonics oscillation technology, the charcoal brush head works to remove sweat, oil and grime from your skin, leaving it smooth and ready for shaving. I noticed that the pores on my nose looked clearer and smaller after just two uses, and only took 60 seconds to clean my whole face. Better yet, it’s waterproof and can be recharged via USB. Perfect for travelling or popping in your gym bag.

Acqua di Parma Note di Colonia V

The Note di Colonia line is inspired by opera, and the fifth installment looks to 'La Donna è Mobile' from the 'Rigoletto' by Giuseppe Verdi. Not sure if you know that one? YouTube it, you’ll recognise it instantly. With top notes of Calabrian lemon, Calabrian bergamot and pink pepper. Mid notes of ginger and juniper. Then finally base notes of sandalwood and cedarwood. The fragrance is as eventful and fun as the song itself, not to mention the beautiful bottle and presentation.

Police Gentleman

Fragrances at all price points come in for testing, and the majority of which go without notice of my better half. However when Gentlemen by Police garnered a ‘you smell nice!’ I felt that it earned it an honourable mention in this month's grooming drops. At an extremely affordable price point and with dominant notes of lemon, tobacco, vetiver, cedarwood and quince, Gentlemen makes for a great daily wear scent and offers enough intrigue and development to please the most discerning noses amongst you.
