Free Fitness Apps to Keep you Active During Quarantine

With the global pandemic of Covid-19 shutting down all gyms and leisure facilities, and with many countries on lockdown, getting fit and healthy has suddenly become a difficult task. Where you might have previously attended yoga classes or boot camps at your local park, we now find ourselves confined to our homes. To help keep the nation active and motivated many fitness apps have dropped the pricing on their premium subscriptions. Here we list the best ones you can use in your living room or garden for all levels of fitness and ability.

Adidas

Many lives may be at a standstill, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t keep moving. Now more than ever, we have to be creative about how we're taking care of each other and ourselves. And adidas is here to do just that, helping the hometeam keep their hearts, bodies and minds healthy through activities that can be done at home. Over the course of the next few weeks, they will be rolling out free virtual experiences across social and digital channels, to support their global community as they stay active, practice mindfulness, learn, and seek entertainment. For the next three months, adidas are offering free premium access to the adidas Training and adidas Running apps globally - available in 15 different languages – loaded with specific at home workouts and nutrition guides. This also includes a ‘Fit From Home’ Challenge where anyone from around the world can join to help achieve a collective goal of staying active, with already nearly half a million participants from 192 countries. To make health at home even more accessible, the adidas Runners community has gone virtual, offering their weekly event schedules through live platforms, including sessions from captains and coaches around the world on meditation, yoga, HIIT, nutrition and Q&A’s.

Nike

Optimism and courage are two of the characteristics that define the world of sport. At Nike, they continue to be inspired by the ways people make sport a daily habit, even in the most challenging of times. To help encourage that further, programming from NTC Premium, a subscription-based service available in the U.S. that includes studio-style streaming workouts, progressive training programs (including bodyweight-only) and expert tips from elite Nike Master Trainers, is now accessible at no charge. To support all athletes wherever they are, Nike provides multiple formats of workout classes, coaching, motivation, nutrition guidance and training tips via their digital ecosystem — the Nike App, the Nike Running Club app, the Nike Training Club app, and their award winning podcast, TRAINED. Within the NTC system, there is a library of more than 185 workouts ranging from 15 to 60 minutes. These span bodyweight-only sessions, yoga classes, targeted training programs (think abs, arms and glutes) and full-equipment workouts for all fitness levels.

Fitbit

Fitbit are supporting those on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19 by providing research and academic institutions with secure and privacy-aware access to their dataset. They’ve seen how data has potential to help the healthcare community respond faster to outbreaks - most recently, The Scripps Research Translational Institute published a study that showed data from Fitbit wearables significantly improved the prediction of influenza-like illness. Given the current circumstances, Fitbit know how hard it is to focus on your health and wellness. But staying active, eating nutritious foods, sleeping well, and managing stress are critical to boosting your immunity and your mood. To help support you, Fitbit are offering 40 new pieces of Premium content free in the Fitbit app. In addition, anyone new to Fitbit Premium can get a 90-day free trial of this paid subscription, which includes personalized health insights, health guidance, advanced sleep tools, customized programs, and 150+ workouts from fitness brands like barre3, Daily Burn, POPSUGAR, and Yoga Studio by Gaiam, to help you stay active at home. If Premium isn’t available in your region, and you haven’t tried Fitbit Coach yet, they’re offering a 90-day free trial, so you can stream video workouts on your phone or computer. To access Premium or Coach, all you have to do is visit the Fitbit app.

Freeletics was founded on the idea that health and fitness are a huge part of the foundation for a happy and fulfilled life. With everything changing around us and our daily routines uprooted, one thing is certain: this is the time to look after yourself. Freeletics are here to make sure you’re not on your own. There are enough things to worry about right now - how to look after your fitness and routines shouldn’t be one of them. To give you additional support, they have created some new, free content you can find on their social media channels and Blog. They’ve also made a collection of Mindset content free in the Freeletics app. And finally, they are curating their most relevant Blog posts which will help you navigate your changing situation. It’s important to stay active if you’re stuck at home, and building a routine can be tricky enough already. It doesn’t help if your mind is busy and you’re feeling stressed, so Freeletics are making their ‘Focus & De-Stress’ and ‘Get Inspired’ audio courses from the Freeletics Mindset Coach accessible to all, free of charge, for three months until June 25th. You can find these episodes by going to the ‘Explore’ tab and choosing ‘Mindset Coaching.’ These exercises, guided meditations and courses will help you to reduce stress, find a moment of calm and build up the motivation to stick to your healthy routines. The Freeletics digital community is also available to you as a pillar of support whenever you need it. Join them every Wednesday on their Instagram account at 5pm for a live community workout with their first Free Athlete, Vanessa Gebhardt.
