Tretorn Announces Nigel Cabourn AW20 Collab

Tretorn extends its collaboration with British fashion designer Nigel Cabourn for the AW20 season through a collection inspired by vintage hiking. The initial partnership between Tretorn and Nigel Cabourn began in 2020 and is based on a shared passion for creating garments of the highest quality, with functional detail, timeless design and a respect to the natural environment as key elements. ”Tretorn introduced me to Sarek in northern Sweden, one of Europe's last true wilderness areas, which I found very exciting and inspirational,” says Nigel Cabourn. “The result is that each item in this collaboration has a sense of the place that inspired it and is made with care and respect to this natural environment - underpinned by Tretorn’s credentials through the Eco Essentials initiative”, he adds.

The Tretorn Sarek Collection is a tribute to the extreme wilderness in that region – considered the largest untouched wilderness in Europe and protected as a world heritage site by UNESCO since 1995. The collection also has a strong connection to Tretorn’s own DNA. “The collaboration is about combining function and timeless design for an active lifestyle in nature and in a sustainable way,” says Carl-Henric Hallén, design manager at Tretorn.

“Sarek has been part of Tretorn's DNA since 1972 and we have learned a lot in the collaboration with Nigel Cabourn, who also took the collection to new heights. He does not see himself as a fashion designer, but likes to create practical products that last forever, a view on sustainable fashion that we share,” he added. The jackets - as there are actually three jackets in one - consist of a padded inner jacket and an outer jacket that can be worn separately or buttoned together depending on the weather and temperature. The outer jacket is made of fabric with recycled nylon from fishing nets and other consumer waste and the inner jacket is made of polyester from recycled PET bottles, both inner and outer jacket are 100% waterproof, breathable and durable.

The collection’s bag has been inspired by vintage hiking backpacks and made for outdoor adventure as well as daily commuting in the city. It has several smart pockets, including a laptop case. The water-repellent design is both functional and timeless - combining the iconic functionality of a Tretorn product with characteristic aesthetics from Nigel Cabourn. The lining is made of recycled polyester from discarded plastic bottles.
