St. Moritz: The Perfect Place for a Winter Ski Trip

If you’re looking to beat the winter blues by jetting off somewhere nice, why not take a ski trip? Ski holidays offer the perfect balance between activity and relaxation. During the day, you can hit the slopes and explore the mountains, and in the evenings, you can enjoy the apres ski culture and great nightlife. When it comes to ski destinations, St. Moritz in Switzerland is one of the best places in the world to visit. It has some of the best ski runs in the world, which is why it is one of the few places that has hosted the winter Olympics twice. There are plenty of luxury hotels and apartments to stay in, and the whole resort is littered with amazing restaurants, which is why it often attracts celebrities from around the world. If that sounds like the kind of winter getaway that you are looking for, read on for some great tips on planning your trip to St. Moritz this winter.

Getting There

Getting to St. Moritz can be a bit of a hassle, but it’s definitely worth the journey. The nearest airport is Zurich, which is 125 miles away. From the airport, the easiest way to get to St. Moritz is by train. It’s a 4 hour journey, but there is plenty of incredible scenery along the way, so it will soon fly by. If you are planning a trip in the next few months, make sure to check the travel restrictions. Many countries require you to prove a negative Covid-19 test result before they allow you in. But as long as you get tested and get a Covid fit to fly certificate before you leave, you will be fine. Just remember that the situation is changing all of the time, so keep up with the latest restrictions to avoid getting caught out.

Best Places To Stay

There is a range of accommodation options in St. Moritz, depending on how much you want to spend. If you want a top of the line, luxury experience, then you can’t do better than Badrutt’s Palace. This huge hotel has been in business since 1896 and has long been a favourite amongst celebrities and royalty. But, as you’d expect, it is at the top end of the price range so if you are looking for something more affordable, there are plenty of budget hotels and hostels available.

Best Restaurants In St. Moritz

If you stay in Badrutt’s Palace, you’ve got some great restaurants on your doorstep. The Chesa Veglia is a small hideaway where you can get some delicious pizzas and enjoy cocktails from one of the two bars. If you want to experience European classics in a Michelin-starred restaurant, without all of the pretentiousness, Johri's Talvo is a must. There are some great dining options if you’re travelling Europe on a budget as well. Restaurant Engadina does delicious hearty dishes at very reasonable prices. A beautiful fondue is definitely welcome after a long day of skiing in the cold.

St. Moritz has a reputation for being a luxury playground for the rich and famous, and in one sense, it is. However, there are also some great options for budget travel if you know where to look, so don’t let the reputation put you off.
