11 Essential Skincare Tips for Clear Skin

Having a steady skincare routine is crucial for healthy skin. Know your skin type and choose the correct routine that works best for you. It doesn't have to be a long-drawn-out process either. Just be sure to maintain a simple routine that’ll work for your individual needs. If you’d like some tips on how to get clear skin, read on.

Dissect Problem Areas

If you suffer from wall-to-wall acne, you’re going to want to first check out what’s going on inside. If your skin tends to dry out quite often, a solid moisturiser is a good place to start. Just keep in mind the best products for your specific skin type.

"Moisturising is particularly important at this time of year to help maintain a clear complexion. Colder temperatures and lower humidity, combined with indoor heating, can leave skin dry and chapped which leads to excess sebum production and bacteria creeping deeper into the skin. All of which means one thing; acne. By moisturising regularly, you can keep skin hydrated and blemishes at bay. Moisturised skin is happy skin." - Andy Shaw, Co-Founder of grüum

Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise

I can’t stress this enough! If you don’t do anything else, do this. Moisture is the crowning glory to great skin. Do yourself a favour and never skip moisturising in your grooming regime. It’s one of the best things you can do to keep your skin looking great for the long haul.

Apply Eye Cream

This will help eliminate puffiness, and any signs of ageing or sleeplessness. When you don’t get enough sleep, your eyes can suffer. You’ll start to see puffiness or deep-set circles that’ll only become more pronounced as you age. Be sure to apply eye cream at least once a day.

Wear Sunscreen

Most skincare professionals will stand firmly on this. Little to no skin protection will cause premature damage and lead to discoloration, fine lines, wrinkles, and other skin issues. Thankfully these symptoms can be intercepted with a good moisturiser. Just look for one that has sunscreen in it.

"Clear skin is happy skin and I believe this is best achieved through daily protection. Your skin comes under attack every day. Use an SPF moisturiser in the morning to lock in moisture, block UV rays (even during winter) and to help prevent skin damage." - Jono Sumner, Co-Founder of LifeJacket

Soften Facial Hair

Razor bumps tend to form when hair follicles aren’t primed before shaving. Always use lukewarm water and a mild shaving cream to get your hair soft and malleable. You’ll want to go with one that includes natural oils and doesn't have alcohol-stripping ingredients to avoid leaving your skin dried-out and aggravated.

Exfoliate

Scouring away those dry and dead skin cells, dirt and grime will eliminate the possibility of clogged pores and breakouts. Just be sure to tread lightly with this, you don’t want to overdo it and irritate your skin. Typically, exfoliating twice a week works just fine.

Get Enough Rest

Being well rested is non-negotiable. Sometimes we underestimate how important a good night's sleep is to healthy skin. Go to sleep on time, and if you need to, set your alarm to remind yourself to begin your wind down to a good night's rest. 8 hours sleep is the target.

Stay Hydrated

Great skin starts from the inside. Many professionals recommend six to eight glasses of water per day. Just be sure you’re not chugging down too many caffeine-based liquids or alcohol which can end up dehydrating your skin.

Keep a Healthy Diet

Foods can seriously impact the health of your skin, causing redness and inflammation, especially those foods high in sugar. Pay close attention to your food labels and the amount of sugar you’re taking in daily.

Stay Fit

Not only does exercise keep you healthy overall, but a steady workout regime will also help clear out those pores and keep your skin nice and bright.

Lower Stress Levels

Traffic jams and crazy work hours can wreak havoc on your skin. Getting riled up over these things can cause hormone levels to spin out of control, leading to nasty acne breakouts. Exercise, mid-day breaks, or sleep will keep you level-headed and prohibit daily stressors from having adverse effects on your skin.
