A NEW CAPSULE COLLECTION FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2014

Calvin Klein Collection x Dover Street Market

As the world of menswear continues to grow and evolve, we have the chance of seeing more and more collaborations and exclusive content. This week, Dover Street Market unveiled Calvin Klein Collection’s Fall/Winter 2014 men’s range at their New York Location. The fashion and concept store, created by Rei Kawakubo, Japanese designer and founder of Comme des Garçons, is no stranger to offering the best of contemporary men’s fashion.

That’s why in honor of the debut of the new CK line, designer and creative director Italo Zucchelli is unveiling an exclusive three-piece capsule collection for the store. When it was first shown in January, the fall collection perfectly captured the understated luxury that Calvin Klein has become synonymous with by offering new and updated men’s silhouettes in a more traditional muted color scheme.

Flowing pleated trousers in a fuller cut were complemented by loose sweatshirts and heavy overcoats for a relaxed, but stylish look. Streetwear also played a big part in the collection by lending its dark neutral colour palette to whole head-to-toe tonal navy, charcoal and camel looks.

Monochromatic dressing has been a big street style trend for a long time, so it was fascinating to see a strong designer take it on. The exclusive capsule is an extension of the full line, but also “a complement to Dover Street Market's current assortment,” says Zucchellli to Style.com

Both influences can be observed as the three pieces, a bomber jacket, a hooded sweater, and a crewneck sweatshirt carry the casual elegance and low-key palette of the main line.

The fashion sweatshirt, embraced by many designers, makes a special appearance here with an embroidered sheen graphic on the front, paying homage to the classic Calvin Klein Escape men’s fragrance, a trend that can be traced back to the fall collection with other graphics such as “Obsession” and “Eternity”.

The style of the other two pieces, on the other hand, is more closely associated with the DSM aesthetics of utilitarian cool, with their classic silhouettes being refreshed by updated texture and flow.

The understated olive green hooded zip-up sweater has a relaxed fit and a 3D waffle weave that makes it look effortlessly cool, while the bomber jacket comes with vintage-inspired baggy sleeves and a slightly short, cropped hemline.

The three pieces perfectly juxtapose Calvin Klein’s classic style and Dover Street Market’s edgier street range. The capsule collection is now available at the Dover Street Market New York store, along with runway pieces from the main Calvin Klein fall collection.
