IWC Mid-Size Automatic Portofino Style

Last September, IWC Schaffhausen announced new mid-size Automatic watches in their Portofino collection that was originally released in the late 1970s. The new watches became the center of attention due to the new video and photo campaign featuring friends of the brand: Emily Blunt, Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz and Zhou Xun.

The campaign is set in Portofino, a picturesque fishing village in Italy - the village IWC’s elegant collection is named after.

The new models are aimed at consumers who would prefer a smaller watch and/or fans of the original 40mm Portofino watches.

They have 37mm cases and IWC have certainly gone happy with the diamonds as each piece features a diamond bezel or diamond indexes. They may have decreased in size, but not in elegance by any means.

The collection of watches are traditional and are perfect for any man, or woman (yes, they are unisex) who wishes to make a style statement. As worn by Christoph Waltz and Ewan McGregor, the pieces will complete a formal outfit, in particular with a suit and it might help win over Emily Blunt.

The new Midsize Automatic collection comes in 10 models, four 18-carat red gold and six stainless steel. 9 of the 10 have Santoni alligator leather straps whereas one has a stainless steel mesh bracelet.

They are powered by a self-winding mechanical movement that has a 42-hour power reserve when fully wound. Date display is also featured on the dial and the glass is antireflective sapphire glass. Not forgetting that they are also water resistant to 30 metres. An utterly timeless collection.
