Luton Hoo Hotel Review

When you arrive at the entrance gate to this huge estate just 30 minutes from central London, you’ll find yourself driving for at least another 5 minutes whilst you pass the hotel’s impressive 18 hole 73 par golf course, 1065 acres of historic gardens, parkland and meadows with two lakes. You’re then greeted with the spectacular view of the grand mansion house where you’re greeted by door staff who will take your bags and park your car for you.

The Grade I-listed, 18th century mansion house at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa has been painstakingly restored to its former glory and the 228-bedroom, five-star country house hotel stands proudly within magnificent grounds landscaped by Capability Brown. Its reputation as one of Britain’s great treasure houses is well deserved.

The Room

Our room was spectacular. We booked into a suite which had its own large terrace/balcony with views over a lake. The façade of the Grade I listed Mansion House reflects the style and elegance inside. The original state rooms provide a unique setting, complete with silk lined and panelled walls, marble fireplaces and ornate ceilings, combined with all the modern amenities and comforts of a five-star hotel. Each of the 35 master bedrooms and suites are named after royalty and eminent people connected with the estate during its lifetime.

The Wernher Restaurant

This is fine dining at its best, so much so that it cost £250k to add just one of the chandeliers to the room. Encased in marble, the setting is at the peak of stylish luxury. The Wernher Restaurant has been sensitively restored to reminisce the Palace of Versailles, providing a stunning backdrop for the enjoyment of superb cuisine and wines, for which the restaurant has won critical acclaim. Further down the corridor you’ll find the Italianate Drawing Room which enjoys views of the south terrace to the formal gardens. Here the afternoon tea is extremely popular, with a full house every day of the week.

The Country Club

We took advantage of the hotel’s very own taxi service - a stylish racing green classic London style cab - which took us to the Country Club. Here you’ll find an 18-metre indoor swimming pool housed in a striking oak framed building with sliding doors. You’ll watch time slip away as you relax on loungers, reading magazines, and forgetting all your little worries for the day. Across the idyllic courtyard, there's the relaxed Adam’s Brasserie & Bar which is perfect for golfers and families with young children. The interior is decorated with framed movie stills taken from famous films that were filmed at Luton Hoo over the years.
