3 Fatal Suit Wearing Mistakes

The suit is a timeless piece of men’s fashion that will never go out of style. It’s perfect for so many different occasions and a good suit should be a part of every man's wardrobe. But there’s a fine line between looking amazing and looking like a kid that borrowed a suit from their dad. Getting a tailored suit is important because a proper fit is vital to making a suit look good, but don’t think that you’re guaranteed to look stylish. There are so many ways that you can wear your suit wrong and end up looking awful. These are some of the biggest suit wearing mistakes to avoid.

A Badly Fitting Shirt

While you might be paying a lot of attention to the fit of the suit, what about your shirt? If you’ve got a badly fitted shirt that creases and crumples up, you won’t look stylish whatsoever. Buying a good shirt is just a case of knowing your size and getting a decent quality shirt from somewhere like T.M.Lewin; their fitted shirts are phenomenal and they’ll take your suit to the next level. It’s worth going into a shop and getting a proper sizing done by a professional, so you can get the right fit for you. The shirt shouldn’t billow too much, but it also shouldn’t be too tight either. The cuffs should sit comfortably at the wrist.

Neglecting The Tie

Most people would say they know how to wear a tie but a lot of people actually don’t. There are a couple of issues that you can run into when choosing and wearing a tie; firstly, think about the colours that you’re matching because if they don’t go well, it’ll ruin the whole suit. The tie brings it all together and, although it’s an opportunity to inject a bit of flair into your ensemble, don’t take it too far and make sure it always matches. Once you’ve picked out the right tie, make sure you know how to tie it properly. If the knot is small and tight, or the tie is too long or short, you’ll look like a schoolboy wearing a tie for the first time. It sounds a bit silly but you should practice in front of the mirror until you get it down to a tee.

Bad Shoes

The shoes are the last thing that people think about when they’re putting together a suit but they can ruin the whole look in an instant. If they’re too clumpy, you’ll lose some of that style. The colour is important as well because if you match wrong, it’ll simply look weird. Brown shoes with a black suit is a definite no. You’ve got more options with a navy blue suit but you need to stick to darker colours like black, dark brown or oxblood. A light brown suit does work sometimes but it’s a bit of a risk. A grey suit is the most formal colour after black so you need to be more conservative with your colour choices, it’s best to just stick to black shoes here.
