MÜHLE Launches in Carnaby

MÜHLE, the German manufacturer of precision shaving instruments have landed in Carnaby. A short five-minute stroll from Oxford or Piccadilly Circus and you'll discover a real Aladdin's Cave of eclectic artisan men’s razors, accessories and gift sets. To celebrate the launch of the new boutique, MÜHLE hosted a relaxed event that featured Dom Bloomfield from The Nomad Barber (Berlin store) sharing expert tips in a live shaving demonstration with an iconic MÜHLE closed comb safety razor - to deliver a traditional DE shave.

The event was attended by a selection of key male grooming aficionados and provided a beautiful cocktail of opportunity, under the tutelage of Dom, to become more mindful on the ingredients needed to achieve a successful wet shave. I spoke to the Master Barber about some of the misconceptions around men’s shaving, his ultimate shaving tip and if more than one blade on a razor is superfluous to requirements.

"What's the point in five razors? In my experience the more times you run a razor through a Surface area, the more likely you'll get irritation. My top tips is, if you want to shave your neck, swallow and hold your breathe. You'll see the Adams apple raise closer to your jawbone exposing the necessary areas that are otherwise tricky to negotiate." - Dom Bloomfield, Nomad Barbers.

MÜHLE have also proved their pioneering capabilities by engineering a synthetic alternative to Badger Hair called Silvertip Fibre. This new innovation provides the same benefits (soft tips and great backbone) and can even be a preferred option to badger hair as it is much more durable and easy to maintain.

"This is a very real company; when I went to their factory in the Ore Mountains, between Saxony and Bohemia where the brand has been based since 1945, I was amazed to see these ladies craft the Silvertip Fibre and Badger bundles and weigh them . It's an amazing skill and it's a lost art, almost like shaving is a lost art. Our latest EDITION Meissen, luxury razor and brush set sells for £1,100, however we also offer quality shaving brushes that start at £30 and our Intro Gift Set is £37 . We are a brand for everyone." - Joanna Olszanka, Store Manager

MÜHLE have curated an excellent space here at 14A Newburgh Street (London, W1F 7RT), inserting their series products at the epicentre of London's retail, in a time when the proliferation of the male grooming market is growing exponentially. I accosted the CEO Christian Muller and asked him why he chose Carnaby as a destination for their London flagship.

"We looked around; sure we went to Shoreditch and we went to Seven Dials, but we wanted to be here, right here on Carnaby Street. It wasn't easy - it's expensive - there's a queue of companies wanting to get in to this place, but we're happy." - Christian Muller, CEO of MÜHLE
