5 Must-Know Engagement Ring Buying Tips

Getting the perfect engagement ring for your partner can be tricky. It’s not something you want to get wrong, especially if your loved one has high expectations or is known to be a little picky. But don’t worry, we’ve put together some tips to help you choose the perfect engagement ring to avoid any disappointment or jewellery faux pas.

1. Decide on your budget

Before shopping for an engagement ring, you’ll need to know your budget. There is no hard rule on how much you should spend, it all depends on your income and your lover's expectations. However, deciding on a budget early on will definitely narrow down the selection of rings you can afford. It’s also important to point out that there’s no need to put yourself in a bad financial situation to please your partner, there are plenty of amazing quality engagement rings out there for a more affordable price.

2. Know what she likes

At the end of the day, the ring will need to please her and sweep her off her feet, so you need to make sure she likes the style, the colour and the shape. Doing a little bit of investigative work could be a good idea. Make sure you are aware of any hints she may give you and take good notes. Another good point is to look into her fashion style, is she glamourous? Classic? Boho? Alternative?

3. Add meaning

There is nothing more romantic than a meaningful engagement ring. There are actually many ways you can add sentimental value to your proposal. Engraved rings, family heirloom passed on from your mother or grandmother or if she’s a Gemini choose a ring designed with a Gemini birthstone, you’re sure to impress her.

4. Shop around

You don’t have to buy the first ring you come across, it’s important to take your time and to shop around to find the perfect one. You can go into shops and speak to knowledgeable jewellers, they’re great at giving good advice and guiding you. If you prefer online shopping, then there are plenty of good jewellery websites where you can even take a quiz to narrow down your search and help you find the dream ring. Always make sure you know the refund, return and exchange policy as it may not fit her finger, or she may simply not like it.

5. Think of your wedding bands

Ideally you would want her engagement ring to match her wedding band, so having rings similar in design and metal is important. You could discuss this with a jeweller, but if you have an idea in your head of what your wedding bands will look like, then even better.
