6 Harry Styles-Inspired Fashion Trends for Spring

From activewear to loungewear, we're all itching to dress up and get out of the house but with shops still closed and only minimal socialising allowed, it can be hard to find inspiration. Luckily, you only need to look as far as former One Direction member Harry Styles for all your fashion inspiration. Over the past couple of years, he has transformed himself from a teenage heartthrob into one of the world’s best dressed men. Already this year he has impressed us - most notably at the 2021 Grammy Awards with his triptych of Gucci looks, each resplendent with its own faux-fur boa draped over his tattooed décolletage. But how can we, at home, replicate his effortlessly cool style without breaking the bank? We speak with fashion stylist Toby Standing, who works at leading marketplace, Thread, and who has over ten years of industry experience. Below, he outlines six Harry Styles-inspired fashion trends (for both men and women!) that are practical, uber-cool, affordable and sure to add a spring to your step:

Bucket Hats

When Harry Styles released “Golden” along with the video in October 2020, we couldn’t get enough of his yellow bucket hat. Unfortunately, due to the cooler seasonal change, we haven’t been able to fully embrace this style trend until now. In Spring, we’ll see the revival of the bucket hat not only because it looks uber cool, but also because it is a practical piece of clothing. Remember, a bucket hat is supposed to be playful so don’t be afraid to experiment with bright colours and bold patterns!

Textured Jewellery

After appearing in Styles’ “Golden” music video, jewellery brand Éliou debuted the “Harry” necklace. Okay, so maybe you don’t have the money to fund a brand new pearl necklace but that doesn't mean you can’t add a little sparkle to your everyday wardrobe. Harry’s style is effortlessly chic so adding a few pieces of jewellery can help you achieve this. If you’re not comfortable rocking a necklace - why not start by layering different pieces of jewellery? Texture is key so try stacking a couple of different sized rings and bracelets.

Vintage Treasures

It’s no secret Mr Styles loves the latest designer drop but he equally loves a second-hand treasure. Not only is this great for the environment, but it’s also a great way to save money and with the shops now opening again, a great excuse for a shopping day. To get the Harry look, go for a washed T-shirt that has a bold statement, pair it with some chinos and white sneakers and you’ll be spring-chic, and all for less than £50.

Embroidery

In February, Harry was pictured leaving BBC Radio 2 in corduroy trousers, a striped T-shirt, and a green jacket by Bode that features embroidered pictures of underwater plants and a ship. During lockdown, many of us have taken up knitting and patchwork so why not try your hand at embroidery? All you need is a needle and thread and you can elevate your look to new heights.

Cool Cardigans

After appearing on TODAY in a £1,500 JW Anderson patchwork cardigan, fans took to TikTok to recreate this iconic look. Who knew the humble cardigan would end up being one of 2021’s most sought-after items? And we’re not exactly mad about it. Layering, especially in the UK, is perfect for the seasonal transition. Don’t be afraid to take inspiration from Harry’s colourful patchwork design. Spring is all about vibrancy, so add a splash of colour here and there!

Short shorts

For many of us, lockdown has been spent in activewear but when it can look this good and is super comfortable to wear, why not embrace the trend? Last summer, Harry caused a bit of a stir when he was snapped in a pair of 5-inch inseam shorts so grab yourself a pair of short-shorts before it gets too hot! Harry isn’t the only one rocking this trend - in fact, super-short cut-offs have made an appearance on the catwalk for the likes of Prada, Gucci and Fendi. It really is time to take it up a notch or two!
