5 EXERCISES FOR GREAT DENTAL HEALTH
Summer is just around the corner and while many people are getting their summer bodies ready, some tend to forget one crucial component – their smile! Quite often, we forget about these “muscles” - so it is time to get in a good stretch and start doing exercises that will get that smile in shape. Do not worry, you will not break a sweat! But what are the best dental exercises for a great dental health routine? We talked to the experts at Dental Art Implant Clinics who gave us 5 handy “exercises” for maintaining exceptional dental health and getting the smile in shape.
1. Brush Your Teeth Correctly
That is correct, folks! One of the worst efforts for many people with dental “exercises” is one of the most basic ones – brushing your teeth. The experts at Dental Art say: “Teeth must be brushed 2 times a day, for at least 2 minutes using short and gentle strokes. Make sure to brush all surfaces of the teeth – inner, outer and the top of the teeth as well. Do not forget the back of your teeth and the gumline as well.” They also caution not to forget about brushing the tongue as a lot of bacteria can be found on the top of the tongue. As an added bonus - it makes your breath smell nice too!
2. Floss, Floss and Floss
Guess what planking and teeth flossing have in common? Doing both make you feel as if time stands still and many like to skip these exercises. That said, correct teeth flossing is essential as it helps remove food particles and plaque that builds up between your teeth and under the gumline. The experts highly advise flossing by saying: “Doing this properly reduces the risk of gum disease developing and tooth decay in general.” What is the proper step for doing this exercise? Grab yourself a piece of dental floss around 18 inches (45cm) long and wrap a decent amount of it around of your middle finger with around 2 inches (5cm) of floss in between. Then using your thumbs and index fingers gently put the dental floss in between your teeth and slide it up and down. Be gentle and make sure to floss beneath the gumline as well by curving the floss around the bottom part of the tooth. Do not forget to switch to a clean section every time you change to the next tooth.
3. Use Mouthwash
Okay, this one is an easy one. The team at Dental Art advise including mouthwash during your daily dental “exercise” routine. “Mouthwash is great for lowering the risk of gum diseases and protecting teeth from all types of bacteria that produce teeth-harming acids.” For proper use, the professionals recommend checking the label of the mouthwash as some might have different instructions on how to use them or it might not be suitable for a veneer. However, usually you need to take the cap of the mouthwash bottle, fill it up with the rinsing solution and swish it in your mouth for about half a minute.
4. See Your Dentist
“Visiting your dentist for a check-up is like having a personal trainer.” You read that right, dear readers. Regular check-ups with your dentist help assess your dental health and ensure that you “stay on track” with your dental health routine. Dental Art recommend visiting your dentist at least twice a year for a dental check-up and twice a year for a dental hygiene treatment to ensure that your dental health remains top notch.
5. A Healthy Diet
We all know that a healthy body requires a healthy diet. We also know that exercising can go only so far and that both go hand in hand. The same goes for dental health. “A diet that consists of sugary food and acidic drinks such as soda, can greatly affect the health of your teeth.
