Street Style Trends of Pitti Uomo 90

The days of Pitti Uomo are full of excitement, personality and colour. Men arrive here ready to show off their best style and are truly knowledgeable about clothing. Between events, premiers, international designers, and big names from the fashion industry, Florence becomes the pivot of international men’s fashion for 4 days. This season was busy, a clear contrast to just a few years ago when the ‘Pitti wall’ wasn’t so hectic. However, among the hustle and bustle we were able to spot a few clear standout menswear trends that you need to try this summer.

Neutral Tailoring

As you would fully expect with high summer tailoring, the fabrics were lightweight and the colours were neutral. We’re talking beige, light grey, pastel yellow, peach and off-white suiting. There’s only a few months in the year that you can get away with wearing such a suit, so why not embrace it? Make sure you’ve got a beige suit in your wardrobe ready for your next summer wedding invitation.

Floral Lapel Pins

We didn’t expect this one but it looked great. Lapel pins in all shapes and sizes, woven from different fabric textures to resemble a flower was donned by many men at this season’s Pitti Uomo tradeshow. It’s a neat little detail that can add personality and fun to a smart tailored outfit. A good way to make use of that lapel button hole too.

Sneakers

Pitti Uomo’s famous courtyard and wall is familiar with scenes of men’s tailoring, which usually means all sorts of formal shoe styles. However, this season we saw much more sneaker designs than in the past. It’s been an exciting year in the sneaker world and this is starting to trickle through into smarter outfits. Would you wear trainers with a suit?

Headwear

All sorts of hats were proudly displayed on the streets of Florence this season. It’s great to see so many men wearing headwear again. All types of styles from straw boating hats to Panama hats, and bucket hats to the dapper Fedora - people were representing in full force and we like it.

Wristwear

Beads, leather bracelets, metal bangles… the list goes on. This trend is a bit like Marmite, you’ll either love it or hate it. We’ll admit that some of the guys went too far but some got it just right. It can add character to an outfit in a subtle way if done correctly. This trend particular looks good with a tailored outfit.

Classic Timepieces

Forget your sports and fashion watches that will go out of style in a year or so. Men at Pitti this year were going back to the timeless classic timepieces such as Rolex and TAG Heuer. We’re big Horology fans here at MenswearStyle and enjoy the idea of passing down watches through generations. We like the direction this trend is headed.

Explosive Pocket Squares

Which pocket square fold should you go for is probably one of the most asked questions in men’s formal accessories styling. Well we certainly have summer 2016’s answer – just chuck it in there and let it hang out. Stylish imperfection in Italy is called Sprezzatura and this is what you should keep in mind next time you wear a pocket square.

Cuffed Trousers

Yes that’s right, it’s time to take a nostalgic trip back to school and adopt the cuffed trouser again. We recommend a 1.5” cuff as an average from what we saw at Pitti Uomo this season. It’s an interesting style edit and will stand out due to unfamiliarity since most suits don’t come with this finish. You’ll either have to visit an alterations or buy a made-to-measure suit to achieve this. However, we’d recommend avoiding it if you’re below average height.
