Spring Footwear Every Guy Needs in His Collection

When it comes to restocking your wardrobe, summer and winter could not be easier to deal with. They’re the extremes at each end of the spectrum and therefore very simple to dress for. Summer – shorts and a T-shirt, winter – big coat of some description along with plenty of layers. Spring and autumn on the other hand can be a complete and utter pain in the arse – especially when it comes to your seasonal footwear. Luckily there are a few key pieces to keep in mind that will allow you to transition from the colder months to the scorching heat of the summer in style.

When that British spring-time rain is lashing down at the weekend, those canvas trainers just aren’t sufficient, but your winter boots feel like a little too much. Cue the sneakerboot. All the comfort and practicality of a trainer with all the support and protection of a boot. It’s as if somebody designed these things with the unpredictable spring weather in mind.

It’s difficult to imagine a more iconic piece of footwear than the trusty desert boot. Stylish and practical in equal measures and a real asset to your transitional wardrobe. If you’re anticipating a lot of wet weather then you’re best off opting for a leather finish – either that, or a good shoe protector if your determined to go for classic suede!

There are few style choices more solid and reliable than wearing a quality pair of leather wingtip brogues, but while they’re perfect for formal occasions in the warmer months, they do let themselves down in less favourable weather conditions. However, add a pair of brogue boots to your footwear arsenal and you’ll be laughing come rain or shine. They’ll keep the rain out and can be dressed up with a suit as easily as they can be worn casually with some indigo denim at the weekend.

A pair of decent suede runners are an absolute must in every men’s wardrobe. They’re ideal for the changeable spring weather provided that you keep them treated with a protector. They’ll be breathable enough for when the sun’s shining, but also durable enough to offer you a bit of protection if/when (definitely when) the weather decides to turn against you.

Leather trainers have enjoyed an enormous wave of popularity over the past few years, thanks in no small part to the now somewhat dwindling ‘athleisure’ trend. However, just because athleisure is on its way out, that doesn’t mean that premium leather trainers are too. This staple piece of footwear is perfect for any time of the year to be honest, but it really does lend itself particularly well to the transitional period.
