10 STYLE COMMANDMENTS FOR JUNE
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO GILES FARNHAM, HEAD OF RIVER ISLAND STYLE STUDIO
As we welcome summer 2017, we've decided to tap River Island for 10 stylish commandments that men should take as gospel during the holiday season. We sat down with Giles Farnham who is Head of River Island Style Studio who lends his expert styling eye on how guys can stay cool and remain stylish during June 2017.
1. Do It Like Tony Montana
Cuban collar, camp collar, reverse collar… whatever you want to call it, this shirt is the go to for the summer. The open neck gives some much breathing space in hotter climes. Throw it on over a white tee or vest.
2. Bags, Bags, Bags
Its no use putting all that effort into you ‘airport look’ if you’re dragging a rather sad looking suitcase behind you. When planning any trip always start with the bag. From a stag do in Ibiza, to two weeks in Morocco with your loved one – smart, practical luggage is essential.
3. Let Your Feet Breathe
Just because the mercury is through the roof it doesn’t mean that smart shoes are out of the window. Suede is far more breathable than leather, which is perfect for dressing up in warmer climes, your feet will sweat less and it looks rather chic too. Free your feet this summer.
4. Lightweight jacket
You know what they say; hope for the best… prepare for the worst! Wherever you’re going, take a backup jacket. Even if the heavens don’t open, it will at least be handy for fending off an evening chill.
5. Sun’s Out, Toes Out
Sandals for men used to be limited to a sweaty plastic flip-flop. Thankfully, those days are long gone. The vast selection of stylish “mandals” available nowadays means that we no longer have to be ashamed of showing a bit of toe.
6. Winning In Linen
Super breathable, linen a perfect alternative to cotton when you want to dress up a little for the hotel bar. Lightweight and margherita appropriate.
7. Swim Game On Point
Inject a little ‘Club Tropicana’ into your poolside ensemble with a striking pair of swim shorts. Make a stylish splash with a bold print or colour.
8. Chino What I Mean
Chinos are incredibly versatile. Smart enough to throw on with a lightweight blazer and shirt, casual enough for a crew neck tee and trainers. The perfect summer alternative to denim in a lighter, less rigid fabric.
9. Nautical But Nice
Imbue your wardrobe with a little Parisian pep this season. Wear with shorts at the beach, then thrown on an open shirt to get bar-ready.
10. Protect Your Peepers
Invest in a couple of different colours and styles when it comes to picking sunglasses, so that you’re prepared for any occasion.
