How to Overcome a Low Mood

Low mood affects us all from time to time. Whether it be sadness, anger, hurt, or frustration, we all know what it’s like to have our emotions darken like a storm cloud. A low mood can often feel like the flu, overcoming the entire body and dragging it through life exhausted. Although you can’t choose the emotions you feel, you can control how you react to them. Making the right change or two could help you to feel better. With that in mind, here are six ways to overcome a low mood.

1. Curse Like A Sailor 

Many of us try to watch our Ps and Qs on a day-to-day basis. However, dropping the occasional F-bomb is known to do good. When you curse, you tap into the emotional part of your brain. If you’ve been bottling up negative feelings, this is an effective way of releasing them and reducing stress. Those that prefer not to swear at all may find that screaming into a pillow works well too.

2. Leave For a Run 

Everyone knows that exercise keeps the body fit, but it does help the mind too. When you work out, your body produces feel-good hormones, known as endorphins, that lift mood and make you feel happier. What’s more, working out is an effective way to get your mind off whatever caused your low mood. Because of this, it’s advised that you try to exercise for thirty minutes each day. 

3. Take A Natural Supplement 

Supplements alone have been shown to elevate mood in a real and lasting way. There are many different supplements that you could choose from, such as vitamin D, fish oil, and theanine. CBD has become increasingly popular over the last few years, with CBG, the new CBD, catching up. Whatever supplement you decide to take, make sure you speak to your doctor first.

4. Reach Out To Friends 

When you say your worries aloud, it eliminates the power they have over you. This is why, most of the time, overcoming negative feelings is as easy as finding an ear to listen. While most people could benefit from therapy, not everyone is ready or willing to seek professional help. If this is the case for you, surrounding yourself with positive and supportive friends can do you a world of good. 

5. Hug Your Furry Buddy 

When you’re feeling down, you have more than just human friends to turn to. Those with pets can also speak to them. Although it may seem silly, it’s difficult to feel down when hugging your furry buddy. After all, they’re always so cheerful, and they love you unconditionally. Even if you don’t have a pet, there’s nothing stopping you from offering your pet sitting services.

6. Give A Helping Hand 

Ignoring your problems won’t make them go away, but dwelling on them is unlikely to help either. This is why, instead of focusing on your own issues, you should try helping someone tackle theirs. Whether you volunteer at a shelter or a food bank, the positive impact you make will help to boost your mood. Not only this, it can give a different perspective of your problems.
