However, to cheer you up a little today I’m bringing you some of the coolest wares that I’ve come across this month. There are sneakers made from Mango and a beautiful freediving watch limited to 70 pieces, among others. So, following on from my December roundup, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite products for January 2021 – enjoy.
SPOKE Dad Denim Amnesty
Custom-made menswear brand SPOKE is so passionate about better denim, they're launching a Dad Denim Amnesty this February. We all know someone who's succumbed to this sad affliction - the frayed hems, sagging seats, pale 80s stonewash and painfully straight legs. But it doesn't have to be this way. This February, when they’ve received their new pair of custom-finished SPOKE jeans, customers can re-use the box and return any pair of old jeans for free. They will then enjoy a rebate of £15 and SPOKE will send their old pair to denim heaven - recycling them into energy saving loft insulation. SPOKE believes the secret to great denim is no secret. It's all about the fit. Using its handy fit finder algorithm, customers can choose from a range of hand-picked denims from around the world - including featherlight, hyper stretch Travel Denim, and beautiful heavyweight options from Okayama - Japan's denim capital.
Panerai Luminor Marina Guillaume Nery Limited Edition
Drawing inspiration from its illustrious history and capitalising on a wealth of technological know-how, Panerai reaffirms its inseparable connection to the sea by introducing an instrument inspired by its Ambassador and constant weight freediving champion: Luminor Marina 44mm - Guillaume Néry Edition (PAM01122). Recognising the critical importance of legible diving instruments, Panerai celebrates the 70th anniversary of the birth of Luminor, a patented tritium-based substance with luminescent properties, with an evocative limited-edition model available in 70 pieces, and with a 70-year warranty. Available exclusively in Panerai boutiques around the world, the new Luminor Marina - 44mm Guillaume Néry Edition is a radical distillation of innovative aesthetic elements, like the rubberised coating applied to the bezel, crown and bridge lever; the accentuated convex glass and the dial with an evocative dégradé effect that emulates the shades produced as sunlight filters through the depths of the sea.
Glencroft Yorkshire-made Flat Cap
British countrywear brand, Glencroft, has launched its most sustainable flat cap yet – the Norber. The flat cap has experienced a resurgence in recent years, due in no small part to TV shows like Peaky Blinders which have made the style a fashion must-have for the discerning gentleman. With this in mind, and with over 11 flat cap and baker boy styles already on their shelves, Yorkshire Dales-based Glencroft, wanted to take the style one step further by manufacturing their most sustainable flat cap yet. Named after the unique limestone formations that surround Glencroft in the Yorkshire Dales, the Norber is a traditional yet stylish flat cap with a Yorkshire twist. The Norber is manufactured entirely in the north of England and is made from 100% British Wool tweed which has been woven at Mallalieu’s of Delph, a traditional Yorkshire woollen mill, just off Saddleworth Moor.
Acqua di Parma Mirto di Panarea Special Edition
Acqua di Parma celebrates the Chinese New Year with the joyful freshness of Blu Mediterraneo, combining this important event with a special edition of Mirto di Panarea. A harmonious array of small golden spheres on a red background envelops the packages and distinctive boxes. The bright pattern recalls the berries of golden myrtle, one of the best-loved fruits in the Italian Mediterranean, a luxuriant garden of extracts and aromas that inspire the fragrances in the Blu Mediterraneo line. Such a gift will surely be noted, also thanks to the red cap that distinguishes this edition of the iconic Mirto di Panarea bottle in its unmistakable blue tone. Acqua di Parma has seen to even the smallest details in this limited edition, reinterpreting it in red and gold in keeping with the most anticipated season in China and countries of the East. The Chinese New Year falls on 12th February 2021, ushering in the Year of the Ox, which in the Chinese Zodiac represents strong, open people with a great sense of friendship. Acqua di Parma creates a graphical interpretation of the Ox, sweet and smiling, to decorate the red and gold tags and an elegant set of red envelopes. Together with the tags and silk ribbon, the envelopes enhance the package and echoes the Eastern tradition of giving gifts of money as a wish for prosperity in the New Year.
PUMA X Michael Lau
Sports company PUMA is working with the godfather of toy figures, Michael Lau, again for the third time for another special edition of the PUMA Suede. The two previously worked together on a SAMPLE SUEDE by Michael Lau in 2017 and for PUMA’s SUEDE 50 series in 2018. The PUMA x Michael Lau Suede VTG will continue to ride on the theme from his last two iterations of the Suede, taking inspiration from the idea of a “sample” sneaker and the creative process. The zig-zag finishing of fabric samples are stitched on the shoes to create an asymmetrical industrial style that delivers an experimental feeling. The sneakers are bright and give a festive feel with the poppy red colour. Other design details include different shades of colour on the left and right shoes, which manifests Lau’s deliberate “mismatched colourway” concept. Lau’s WORTH CAT Figure, inspired by the PUMA Cat logo, will once again be in the limelight of this crossover project. Just like before, sample fabric is the main material in use and the figure is made in red, yellow, white and black versions. A very limited amount of these special edition figures will be given out for seeding and with purchase in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
SAYE Recycled Mango
This 100% VEGAN sneaker is made of primarily recycled mango fruit, a bio-based vegan napa and a bamboo lining that will make a significant impact on consumers, the industry and of course, the environment. In order to produce organic, recyclable leather made up of real, discarded mangoes, SAYE has collaborated with Fruit leather Rotterdam, a Dutch company specialised in transforming fruits into durable, leather-like material. 45% of produce for consumption gets thrown away. 30% of the earth's agricultural land is used to produce food that eventually will be thrown away. 10% of all greenhouse gasses in rich countries are emitted by producing food that will never be eaten. SAYE wanted to do something about these enormous statistics, because we live in a world where resources are becoming scarcer by the day, and it's time to make a change.
Farah Goes Organic
From spring/summer 2021 Farah will be producing all of its core lines in 100% organic cotton only. The move comes as part of the menswear company’s growing commitment to sustainability. Farah’s core basics collection encompasses t-shirts in multiple shades, plain sweats and polo shirts, a selection of hoodies and quarter-zip tops, jersey shorts, the iconic Brewer shirt with signature golden F logo, chinos and Harrington jackets. All of the cotton used in Farah’s core lines will be certified by one of two methods - either the Organic Content Standard, an independent organisation that verifies the amount of organic material in the final product, or by the Global Textile Standard, widely considered the textile processing benchmark for organic fibres. Farah has also pledged to ensure the organic cotton it uses is sourced only from producers with high standards of working conditions and employment rights.
Hawes & Curtis Loungewear
British heritage brand Hawes & Curtis has launched its first ever luxury loungewear collection to reflect consumer demand during the pandemic. This comes as lockdown shopping behaviours have seen customers more likely to purchase apparel with a casual slant. Since 1913 Hawes & Curtis has been best known for its quality formalwear, fine tailoring and premium cotton shirts. To reflect the current climate, the brand is expanding its product offering by adapting its styling requirements to reflect the changing needs of its customers. The pared-back capsule collection features elevated essentials including hooded sweatshirts, crewneck sweatshirts, sweatpants and T-shirts in super-soft organic cotton fabric. Designed to be the off-duty go-to, every piece is cut with a modern fit without compromising on comfort. Made with high quality organic cotton for a truly luxurious handle, the loungewear is garment-dyed for a super-soft touch and to enhance the colour.
