Bulldog Launches Original Bamboo Razor

Bulldog Skincare continues to mark its territory as one of the leading brands in the men's high-street beauty world. They are currently one of the few companies who are completely vegan and are certified by Cruelty Free International. By using natural ingredients such as camelina and green tea, there is nothing nasty soaking into your skin and they use sugarcane plastic in their original packaging. I am sure most of you men reading this will have picked up at least one of their products before heading away for a weekend break - their original moisturiser, face wash and beard oil are all fantastic. They already have a popular range of shaving products and so their new launch seems the natural next step. Bulldog are finally delving into the shaving accessories market with their first razor. Yes, there are a lot out there on the market now, but before you click away, just know that it is like no other currently on the shelves or online.

MenswearStyle were invited to the launch at the Dorchester Hotel in London where the British founder of Bulldog Simon Duffy explained (over a purely vegetarian feast) the ideas behind the two year, environmentally conscious, development process. It became very clear that this is by no means a flash-in-the-pan product and a serious amount of thought has gone in to the design. The first thing that you will notice is the bamboo handle. Bulldog have scrapped the typical moulded flimsy plastic and chosen an eco-friendly bamboo, which fortunately is a type which Giant Pandas don't like to eat. Bamboo is extremely strong, has natural antibacterial properties and is water resistant - it makes perfect sense as a razor handle. We have previously spoken on MenswearStyle about how brands are becoming increasingly aware of plastic wastage and Bulldog has catered to the increase in consumer demand for plastic-free products.

Who else finds it extremely irritating trying to tear open that hideously thick plastic that surrounds the regular razors? You normally end up slicing your fingers and mouth, or have to rummage to find the kitchen scissors. Bulldog have produced a significantly easier cardboard casing: simply pull the tab. Sorted (Just remember to throw it in the recycling). Bulldog has created packaging which is fully recycled from card stock, so you won't have to worry about more plastic floating around in our oceans. Plus, they have used environmentally-friendly inks for printing too.

Another thing you might notice is the weight of the product: it feels like a good quality weight. The centre of the handle is made from brushed metal which can be taken apart to replace the bamboo component, once it wears down. Bulldog confirmed on the launch night that there will be further handle shape options available. The main head of the razor is flexible, has five tempered steel blades, a precision trimmer and a lubricating aloe strip. All of this makes for a guaranteed smooth and close shave. If that wasn't enough, the razor is reasonably priced, just like the rest of their products. The razor will be available in Boots from August for £12, and once you have bought the razor, all you will need are the blades. This may seem like a lengthy description of an everyday item, however it's the innovative design process behind it that makes it stand out. If other companies could take a leaf out of Bulldog's ethos, perhaps we can move another important step closer to a healthier and cleaner environment.
