Adidas Originals New P.O.D System S3.1

It's hard to keep up with adidas these days. They are constantly launching innovative designs and one of the most recent styles to hit the feet of sneaker addicts is the adidas Originals P.O.D S3.1, which launched at the end of June. The new silhouette has been built for purpose and are the ideal trainers for getting from A to B, comfortably! The launch took place in true creative adidas style with an intimate event in Shoreditch. Pharrell Williams was invited to the 'Makers Lab', along with influencers and adidas fans, and were encouraged to create their own shoes in order to get a real feel for the adidas design process. With guidance provided by Senior Vice President of Design, Nic Galway, guests were given a variety of materials for all aspects of the shoe and were shown how they are put together using laser etching, heat pressing and chainstitching. Migos and DJ Benji B were just some of the entertainment for the evening to help celebrate the creative spirit of the brand through art, music, culture and of course, style.

MenswearStyle were fortunate to test drive the trainers just after the launch and can confirm the extreme comfort. The Point of Deflection (P.O.D) System takes nostalgic inspiration from adidas' archive of mid-90's running technology. adidas have taken the technical side of a running shoe and translated it into a stylish everyday trainer. The BOOST in the heel provides shock absorption and the combination with the supportive and responsive EVA in the front of the shoe, gives the shoe its flexibility and fluidity in its step. The centre of the P.O.D S3.1 consists of a bridge which is inspired by their Torsion System and provides a gap between the arch. This is the part which brings stability across the midfoot to the podular sole and works with the form of the foot to enhance natural motion.

The exciting news is there is another colour way in the pipeline, launching on August 2nd. The first shoe came with a splash of neon, however the follow-up model is a more classic two-tone trainer with a solid black upper and purely white sole: highlighting the distinctive and modern design. The upper is constructed from a light-weight knitted textile, reinforced by structural overlays, a branded heel tab and the infamous Three Stripes mark on the side. The toe cap is lined with a breathable mesh which creates more room for movement and airflow to the foot. A soft and unstructured tongue rests perfectly on the ankle and also contributes to the shoe's comfort. This new model is already proving popular as the bold design will look confident for a casual look or act as a smarter streetwear alternative. The P.O.D System S3.1 new colour way will be available for both men and women and we suggest you get your hands on a pair as soon as possible.

As an addition to the launch of the shoe and to immerse adidas fans even further, the brand has created a documentary exploring the reasons behind the design of the P.O.D System S3.1. It will take consumers on a visual journey through a completely deconstructive process of shoe; literally taking it a part and reforming it into its new silhouette. Nic Galway describes the philosophy: "We have this great past, and we have this amazing future. And P.O.D System is really about connecting the past with the future."
