Is Ibiza the New Wellness Destination?

Ibiza might be known for its nightlife and summer-long parties, however, travellers are choosing this destination for self-care induced serotonin over a suntan. The island welcomes some eight million holidaymakers and world-renowned DJs a year, but as the globe has turned its attention to wellness, Ibiza has swiftly taken a U-turn towards a place to detox instead of re-tox.

So, what makes Ibiza an ideal wellness hotspot?

The island evokes an energy that slower living is here to stay. Burnout is at an all-time high, so much so, the feeling of really wanting to switch off when we travel likely resonates with many of us. Vegan dining has grown exponentially since Netflix documentaries made their way across household TVs, whilst yoga retreats and holistic therapies are being favoured over traditional treatment methods. Ibiza is no exception in the way it has adapted to this new way of living; health-conscious individuals now visit the island to recharge and rejuvenate from the stressors of everyday life. Yoga retreats on the island tend to attract those in their 30s; likely the ones who chose the island for its electronic music in their 20s. If you’ve been to Ibiza, you’ll understand when I refer to its spiritual untouched spots, particularly in the north of the island. After years of attracting hedonists, Ibiza has pivoted back to its origins and thanks to its micro-climate, outdoor workouts and swimming can happen almost all year round. Here's Ibiza’s best wellness retreats:

Atzaro

Located amongst numerous orange groves, Atzaro boasts classic Baleric rustic architecture. The boho agriturismo comprises several suites and rooms for a peaceful night's sleep between yoga and gym sessions or a dip in the pool. The decor is calm and natural with luxury touches that don’t go unnoticed. Their farm-to-fork concept threaded through their restaurant continues throughout their spa and grounds with nature-connected elements. Here guests can enjoy delicious organic foods between treatments, making this a truly unmissable wellness establishment on the island. Packages include all classes, lunch, and full spa access for the ultimate relaxation. In April and October each year, the resort hosts the Ibiza Spirit Festival, an eclectic and vibrant celebration of healing and spirituality.

Ibiza Gran

Ibiza’s first luxury grand hotel on the island, the hotel comprises 3,000m² of landscaped gardens, 185 tranquil suites, four restaurants, the unique Casino de Ibiza, and the property’s world-class 1,300² Open Spa. The hotel has been a prominent resident on the island for more than a decade and is renowned for its exceptional service, the celebration of contemporary art and relaxed luxury atmosphere. On-site restaurant La Gaia by Oscar Molina cooks up tantalising Michele-star dishes by evening, whilst the pool restaurant keeps your refreshments in check throughout the day.

Ibiza Retreats

For those on the hunt for deep healing and transformational retreats, Ibiza Retreats welcomes groups, families, corporate teams, and individuals. Their packages range from 1:1 coaching to deep shamanic practises for seasoned yogis; however, they welcome all abilities to their retreats. Mornings begin with slow vinyasa practices, whilst the days are nourished with wholesome foods, a chance to take a dip in the pool and join further sessions and workshops with their instructors. The day ends with a deeply relaxing breathwork class, yin or restorative yoga, followed by an alfresco supper under the starry night sky.

Body Camp Ibiza

Not all retreats on the island are infused with yoga and acai bowls. Body Camp Ibiza offers the fitness boost you might be looking for. Expect early morning hikes along herbaceous and rocky borders, sweaty weighted classes, boxing drills and sculpt sessions.

Active Ibiza

If you’re keen to get out and explore lesser-known areas of the island, Active Ibiza wants you to experience it almost anyway way you wish. Whether you want to horse-ride, cliff-jump, kayak or jump on a safari. their energetic and sociable activities are entirely bespoke allowing you to immerse yourself with locals in some of the island's most beautiful locations.
