May 2019’s Best Men’s Grooming Drops

Welcome to another edition of the MenswearStyle best grooming drops. I’ve come across some great products this month that I want to put on your radar, such as a razor release from a German streetwear blog and a fragrance which uses sustainable ingredients. So, following on from my April 2019 grooming drops feature, here are some of the best new releases in men's fragrance, skincare, and haircare that we recommend you reach for during May 2019. Say goodbye to April showers, warmer days are coming.

Smoovall

Whilst not the sexiest of topics, most of us have experienced chafing. From the day to day, to the sporting activities we take part in, it’s an unfortunate side effect that we don't want to talk about. Smoovall offers a spray solution that is dry in 20-30 secs and works for a minimum of 4 hours. As a regular gym goer myself, I’ve used Smoovall several times over the last fortnight, and I was very impressed with the results. Once dry, you won't know its there, it’s invisible and non-greasy. Say goodbye to chafing.

Seb Man

Seb Man is the new grooming range for the men of today. An offshoot of the Sebastian Professional products found in salons across the world. Seb Man offers an impressive range, including hair care, styling and grooming products. My favourites from the line were The Multi Tasker and The Cooler. The Multi Tasker is a 3-in-1 hair, beard and body wash. For the gent with a beard, having one product that ticks all 3 boxes is an easy one to recommend. Better yet, the combination of bergamot and pink pepper smells fantastic. The Cooler was a delight and a revelation. The nozzle allowed me to spray directly on to my scalp and feel instantly refreshed and invigorated. It works brilliantly as a pre-styler and has the same bergamot and pink pepper scent as The Multi Tasker.

Doers of London

Doers of London offer a focused line of products, aimed at satisfying the needs of the London man about town. From the sharp black on white design to the inventive product names, Doers are setting themselves apart from the rest of the pack. My favourites from the line were It Starts At The Top shampoo and Daily Grind moisturiser. It Starts At The Top left my hair feeling thicker and fuller thanks to the wheat proteins, and scented by a combination of primrose oil and organic sage. Daily Grind did what I want all moisturisers to do, mattify my skin throughout the day. It was non-greasy and felt light on the skin, perfect for a day on the grind. The line also includes Fresh Body, Clean Mind shampoo, Cut Out The Fluff shave cream and Wipe Your Slate Clean facial cleanser.

Westlab Recover Salts

Juggling mornings in the gym, followed by a full workday can take its toll, so I appreciate a little aid in my recovery with help from Westlab to attack the next day and the next gym session. Epsom salts aid in replenishing magnesium levels, combined with essential oils and arnica for relieving aches and pains.

Malako

Inspired by the century-old wisdom of traditional Thai healing, Malako is a brand with a story seated in travel and wellness. Founder Kanchalika discovered the fundamentals of traditional Thai medicine and the importance of using natural ingredients on the skin. With this Malako was born and a range of products created. I’ve been enjoying their Full Charged Kit, which consists of All-Over Wash and All-Over Lotion. The wash left my body, hair and face all feeling refreshed, followed by the lotion which absorbed in incredibly quickly and left my skin feeling fantastic for days later. Not forgetting the calming qualities of the lavender and mind-sharpening benefits of the rosemary oil. Malako really does have wellbeing covered in mind, body and soul.

Jack Black

Jack Black is a brand I’ve known and enjoyed for some time, but here are two of my favourites to give your skin a spring clean. Face Buff Energizing Scrub works miracles on my skin. The biodegradable scrubbing particles are barely noticeable upon application (there are no rough beads). It unclogs pores, sweeping away the oil, dirt, grime and dead skin cells, leaving my skin feeling unbelievably smooth; A go-to in my grooming arsenal. Charcoal Body Bar Massaging Soap is a new favourite of mine due to the experience it gives. Soap as a product has gone out of fashion, in a world of cleansers and body washes, but it shouldn't be overlooked. This bar is a multitasker, which I'm always a fan of. The charcoal deodorises the skin, jojoba beads remove dead skin cells, glycerin moisturises the skin, but the experience lays in the nubs in the bottom of the bar. They stimulate circulation and can be used to massage your muscles, aiding in relieving tension. This is no regular bar of soap.

Baxter of California

To understand the latest products requires a quick chemistry lesson. Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) is oil soluble and can break through the skin's surface, giving your pores a deep clean. Whilst Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) compliments the BHA by working on the skin's surface by exfoliating the top layer and rejuvenating your skin tone. Baxter of California has released two new products with this in mind. Skin Concentrate BHA works on improving uneven skin tone, reduces excess oil production whilst moisturising your skin with vitamin E. Clay Mask AHA detoxifies the skin from deep within. Leave on for 10 mins and use in conjunction with the BHA for improved skin at all levels.

Harry's + Highsnobiety

I can’t recall a collab like this in the shaving industry before, but that’s a testament to the shakeup that’s currently happening with brands such as Harry's. Harry's have collaborated with the German streetwear blog Highsnobiety on a limited edition set, consisting of a translucent handle and laser-etched, black anodised stand. When did shaving look this cool?

Clean Reserve - Smoked Vetiver

Clean pride themselves on using recyclable packaging and sustainable ingredients, they’re eco-conscious throughout the production process. Smoked Vetiver by Clean Reserve is a light and playful take on the note of vetiver, a fragrance note that can often split opinion. The vetiver is joined by a lovely pear note and a resinous myrrh note. Myrrh is a tree resin, which is harvested by nomadic tribes in Namibia. Smoked Vetiver is a perfect scent for the spring days, with enough depth to take you into the night.

Curionoir - Tobacco Night

Curionoir was founded in New Zealand by Tiffany Jeans, who has drawn on her Maori heritage to create a range of products that represent her traditions. Tobacco Night is a beautiful combination of sage, coriander, dried tobacco leaves, elemi, amber and musk. Combined they create the scent of a smoked tobacco pipe on a summer evening. Available in both Extrait de Parfum concentration and a beautiful candle to scent your home.
