Everything You Need to Know About Solid Colognes

No matter who you are – whether you are a complete grooming expert, an utter newbie, or a typical guy falling somewhere in between – you know about cologne. Even if you don’t wear it religiously or know anything about fragrance note complexities, you at least understand the bare bones. But did you know there’s such a thing as solid colognes? There is, and we’re big fans. Want to hop on the bandwagon? With help from Groom Journal here’s everything you need to know about solid colognes and why you should be using them.

The Basics of Solid Cologne

Let’s get straight to it. What exactly is solid cologne? It’s actually pretty much what it says on the tin. Solid colognes are simply fragrances that are in solid form rather than liquid, usually made from beeswax, shea butter, or some other similar medium that’s moisturising and absorbs nicely. Instead of spraying them on, you then rub them into your skin. This can be done anywhere, but pulse points like the neck or wrists, or somewhere like the chest are usually the most common as they offer better scent activation. We know it might sound gimmicky on the surface, but there are quite a few benefits to using solid colognes in place of their more traditional liquid alternatives.

Why You Should Use Them

So, what are some of the benefits exactly, and why should you use solid colognes in the first place? For starters, they are significantly more portable than the liquid variety. Where typical ones make on-the-go use difficult, solid ones can be easily carried wherever you go. Just slip it into your backpack or even your jeans pocket and reapply whenever you’d like a little extra scent. You can even carry it on a flight, whereas liquid cologne might cause a touch more trouble because of capacity allowances. Hand in hand with the portability issue, solid fragrances are more durable. Since they are usually stored in a plastic or tin container, there are no worries about glass breaking or cologne leaking all over your stuff. Past this, they’re also easy (or subtler) to use and they’re kinder to your skin than most of the sprays out there due to lower alcohol contents and more moisturising ingredients. In other words, they’re more practical and better for you overall. If that’s not a good reason to use them, we don’t know what is.

All About Application

Convinced that solid colognes might be the way to go? That’s awesome! We think you’ll love them. Of course, you’ll need to learn how to apply them first. Luckily, it’s a super simple process. Just grab your tin and flip it (or swivel) it open to reveal your fragrance. Instead of digging into the product, swipe your fingers over it a few times, and apply it to your wrists, neck, the bends of your elbows, or wherever else you want it. And that’s it! As we said: easy. You can now close up your tin and go about your day feeling good and feeling fresh.
